Current project list

          This is our wish list of projects big and small that we would love to see completed. We hope to see all of these projects completed in the future and would be overjoyed and very grateful if you would like to participate in some way.

Big Projects

Girls’ and boys dormitories – Plans for the first of these have been passed and the girls’ dormitory is currently under construction. There are sufficient funds to complete the building itself, but not enough for furniture.
 

Water filtration - There is currently a problem with providing clean water to some of our dorms. Having eighty children we require a commercial sized filtration system to ensure access to clean, safe water.
 

Well – Throughout the hot season we suffer from a lack of water and we need to hire a machine to dig deeper into the existing well to ensure that we have enough water for our children at all times in the year.
 

Office extension - We need to expand our current office to give us the much needed space to work and store information.
 

Medical House – We have blue prints and permission ready and waiting and need to build a Medical House in which a nurse/carer can live and work. We also need two separate areas (one for boys and one for girls), each with its own bathroom facilities.
 

Painting – Provision of paint and general decorating of rooms to tidy up the place. On-going maintenance is a real area of need.
 

Guttering – The provision and fixing of guttering on all buildings.
 

Computers – The children currently require some more laptop computers for educational purposes.
 

Basket Ball Court – It is important that the children have physical activities, especially the older children who need healthy physical development and interaction. We are excited about this project as the sport facilities that the children can access at Kid’s Life are very limited.

Small projects

Sand box – We would like to see a sand box made for our children, preferably one with an easily removable cover or lid to keep it safe from animals.
 

Sewing Machine – The provision of sewing machines and any instruction in repairing and making clothes for the children. Sewing skills are a great asset in Kids Life and give the children a great ‘life skill’ that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
 

Fences – Many fences around the Kids Life site need fixing and/or replacing.
 

Resources – Quality English resources are always needed e.g. phonic games for larger groups would be invaluable.
 

Computer Maintenance – Cleaning up the existing computers of virus’s, loading new beneficial programmes for the children and teaching children how to use and take care of the computers is always required.
 

Bridges – Two of the bridges here are made from bamboo and so need regular maintenance and attention. We would like to see more permanent, low maintenance bridges built.
